THIRD COMPREHENSIVE FOR CARDIFF?

At the end of the summer term came the long awaited announcement about the proposed location of a third Welsh medium secondary school for Cardiff on the site of the present Saint Teilo's school in Llanedeyrn. Once again, careful monitoring is needed in order to meet the target date of September 2009 for the school's opening.

The announcement came at the same time as a commitment to enhance two primary schools, Melin Gruffudd and Y Wern. The intention is to relocate the two English medium schools that currently share these locations. There is no guarantee however that these plans will actually be realized.

It is important for Cardiff RhAG to lobby the Council with a view to improving resources at all the Welsh medium schools. The council has not responded to calls to improve resources at two other schools, Coed y Gof and Treganna. Parents at Treganna have led an effective campaign to draw attention to the serious problems surrounding resources at the school. If the proposed changes are realized, this will go some way towards relieving pressure due to oversubscription.
