BUILDING ON PROGRESS IN CAERPHILLY

Ysgol Ifor Bach in Senghennydd, which started out as Caerphilly's only Welsh medium school at the beginning of the 60s, is to have a new building. Not only is it a relief to have a replacement for the old secondary school buildings, but just as important is the fact the the new school will be located nearer the centre of its catchment area, i.e. in Abertridwr.

Other good news coming from Caerphilly is the fact that Ysgol Gymraeg Bro Allta in Ystgrad Mynach is at last to take possession of the whole of its building. There was a ridiculous situation when the former Mid Glamorgan authority insisted that three classes of the local school should share the new Welsh medium school's home, even though that meant it had to utilise demountable classrooms as a result. This was in the wake of the education authority's policy of combining junior and infant schools and this was the solution it came up with in Ystrad Mynach.
